+## Inputs and generated code {#inputs}
+
+`add-entities` and `add-domain-models` share an `entities-file` input. `add-forms-from-entities` combines that entity definition with a `forms-file`. This phase describes how each goal uses those inputs; a complete input-file schema belongs in a later reference phase. Current sample files are available in the canonical repository's [plugin examples directory](https://github.com/eclipse-ee4j/coffeebuilder/tree/develop/coffee-builder-maven-plugin/examples).

+## Datasource declaration modes {#datasource-declaration-modes}
+
+`add-persistence` and `add-datasource` accept the same datasource options. Their `declare` parameter controls where the datasource is configured:

The catalog supplies driver coordinates and the implementation then queries Maven artifact metadata for a version. An unrecognized URL prefix does not produce a catalog-backed datasource class or driver dependency.

+## create-openapi {#create-openapi}
+
+**Category:** REST and OpenAPI
+
+Configures server-side Java generation from an OpenAPI document using the OpenAPI Generator Maven plugin.
+
+### Prerequisites
+
+- An existing Maven project with a detectable Jakarta EE 10 or 11 API dependency.
+- A readable OpenAPI document. The default expects `openapi.yml` in the project root.
+
+### Parameters
+

+
+- Copies the input document into the project root under its original filename.

+- Uses the `jaxrs-spec` generator in Jakarta mode, configured for interfaces and MicroProfile OpenAPI annotations rather than a complete server runtime.
+- Directs generated output to `target/generated-sources/openapi`.
+- Derives the API package as `<project-base-package>.app.resources` and the model package as its `.model` child.
+- Adds MicroProfile OpenAPI API `4.1` and the Jakarta-version-appropriate Validation API dependency.
+- Creates local customization files `src/main/openapi-templates/pojo.mustache`, `src/main/openapi-templates/enumOuterClass.mustache`, and `.openapi-generator-ignore`.
+- The ignore file suppresses generated `RestApplication.java` and `RestResourceRoot.java`, allowing the application to retain its own JAX-RS bootstrap.
+- Resolves a build-helper plugin version through Maven artifact metadata and adds an `add-source` execution during `generate-sources`.
+
+No API or model tests and no generated POM are requested by the embedded generator configuration. The goal establishes generation configuration; it does not configure or certify an application runtime.

+Runtime goals add Maven profiles and plugin configuration. Their presence indicates configured behavior in the current snapshot, not a formal runtime support or certification statement.

+## add-glassfish-embedded {#add-glassfish-embedded}
+

+
+Creates or reuses a Maven profile and adds the embedded GlassFish Maven Plugin for running the project artifact.
+
+### Prerequisites
+
+- An existing Maven project that produces the application artifact referenced by the generated configuration.
+
+### Parameters
+

+The plugin version is hardcoded to `7.0`. This goal does not inspect the target's Jakarta EE version and does not select a GlassFish version from it. Current automated tests verify Mojo/helper interaction, not that every generated runtime combination starts successfully.

+- A build that produces the artifact path referenced by the generated configuration.
+

+Coffee Builder works incrementally. Start with a Jakarta EE project, choose the capability you need, inspect the generated or modified files, and continue developing the application normally. +## Target-project expectations {#target-project-expectations}

+- Run a goal from the root of an existing Maven project containing `pom.xml`.
+- Use Java 21 and Maven 3.9.16, matching the requirements recorded in the current plugin descriptor.
+- Goals that select Jakarta-specific configuration expect the project POM to declare a recognizable Jakarta EE 10 (`10.0.0`) or Jakarta EE 11 (`11.0.0`) API dependency.
+- Web and Faces goals use the conventional `src/main/webapp` layout; some changes require an existing `WEB-INF/web.xml`.
+- File-driven goals require the indicated JSON or OpenAPI input file.
+- Review generated changes and keep them under the same source control and review practices as handwritten code.

+## Configuration model {#configuration-model}
+
+Normal plugin execution reads version and template catalogs embedded in the plugin JAR. It does not require a remote configuration service.

+Some current goals separately consult Maven artifact metadata to resolve a dependency or build-plugin version. Those lookups require repository access even though the Coffee Builder configuration catalogs themselves are local.

+An opt-in development mode can follow configuration from the repository's `develop` branch. That mode is intended for contributors testing configuration changes, not for the normal user workflow. Coordinate such work through the [Community and Contributing page]({{< relref "/community" >}}).
