Condensation and mould-risk monitoring in Home Assistant

+

A house average can conceal a room that repeatedly stays damp. Humidity Intelligence brings moisture-risk readings, room context and control decisions into the same view, so recurring patterns are easier to investigate.

+
+
+
+

Look beyond the house average

+

Rooms experience different moisture loads and temperature changes. A bathroom after showers and a cooler bedroom can need separate attention even when the house average appears settled. HI uses configured room and level mappings to make the source of an alert traceable where that context is available.

+

Read the affected room, its humidity and temperature, the active target profile and the reported risk together. An isolated reading and a recurring pattern call for different investigation; neither should disappear behind an encouraging whole-house score.

+
+

Follow the selected control response

+

HI places humidity danger, mould and condensation lanes above routine zone and air-quality demand in its ventilation priority order. CO emergency retains the highest priority. For zone-bound moisture responses, the engine must resolve the source, room and zone; missing context cannot be replaced by an invented mapping.

+

The reason panel explains which response was selected and why. If you expected a different device to run, inspect that explanation, any active gate and the output mapping before changing thresholds. The control-decisions manual describes the full priority order.

+
+

Use the readings to investigate recurring patterns

+

Compare the affected rooms before and after familiar moisture-producing activities. Check whether readings return towards the active target, whether the same room remains elevated and whether the configured device reports the expected state. Sensor placement, missing readings and a device that does not physically operate can all limit the interpretation.

+

HI reports risk from configured evidence. It cannot inspect hidden surfaces, diagnose the cause of damp or confirm the absence of mould. Recurring dampness still needs investigation of the property, its ventilation and maintenance.

+
+

Add a longer view without losing current alerts

+

Stability Score includes moisture risk, target adherence, room balance and recovery across a rolling 72-hour window. Its details expose deductions and available history, helping you distinguish a brief excursion from repeated imbalance.

+

Missing evidence can restrict or suppress the score. A strong score does not clear an active alert or confirm an output is working. Keep current conditions, the reason panel and device observations alongside it.

+

For the broader environmental context, read why environmental stability matters. For sensor and room assignments, use the configuration walkthrough.

+

Humidity and air quality control for Home Assistant

+

A humidity reading tells you part of the story. Humidity Intelligence brings room conditions, configured air-quality measurements and device control together in Home Assistant, with the reasoning visible.

+
+
+
+

Start with the conditions you can measure

+

HI uses the sensors and outputs you configure. Room temperature and humidity provide context for humidity targets and moisture risk; supported air-quality sensors add evidence about the conditions you choose to monitor. A single pollutant reading does not describe every aspect of indoor air quality.

+

For example, a shower can raise humidity while cooking changes particulate readings elsewhere. HI evaluates the available evidence against your settings and resolves the ventilation response through a defined priority order. The dashboard shows the selected response and its reason.

+

Use the configuration walkthrough to map real sensors and devices to the appropriate rooms and levels. A single-level home needs no dummy second level.

+
+

Targets that follow your selected profile

+

Humidity is assessed against the active seasonal or custom profile. Auto follows the seasons; you can also select a season explicitly or set custom targets. This gives the control engine a consistent reference for the current configuration.

+

Air-quality conditions use their configured thresholds and supported units. Keep those settings aligned with the actual sensor type: unavailable readings, invalid units and missing mappings must remain visible as gaps in evidence.

+
+

One ventilation decision, with an explanation

+

Each evaluation selects one ventilation lane. CO emergency has the highest priority, followed by humidity and moisture-risk lanes before routine zone and air-quality demand. Configured gates and manual-control state also matter. Humidification follows its own demand independently of ventilation lane selection.

+

When a device does not respond as expected, begin with the reason panel: inspect the selected lane, source context and gate state. Then check the device and its mapping. The control-decisions guide explains that sequence in detail.

+
+

Check the response as well as the reading

+

Optional output monitoring reports configured device states and gaps in monitoring. A device reported as On in Home Assistant is not proof of physical airflow or moisture production. Confirm the actual device response when investigating a problem.

+

Current alerts and device status tell you what is happening now. Stability Score adds a longer view of target adherence, room balance and recovery. Both are useful, and they answer different questions.

+

Start with installation through HACS, then follow the manual for configuration. For CO-related behaviour and its limits, read Air Quality and CO Safety; HI complements independent CO safety precautions and detectors.

A score with evidence behind it.

+

Understanding Stability Score in Home Assistant

+

Stability Score puts current conditions in a longer perspective. It combines humidity, room balance, moisture risk, configured air quality and recovery, while keeping the evidence and its limits available to inspect.

+
+
+
+

What the score adds

+

A reading can return to target after a short disturbance while the same problem continues to recur. Stability Score looks across a rolling 72-hour window to describe that pattern. Its six components cover target adherence, steadiness, room balance, risk clearance, air-quality clearance and recovery.

+

The useful comparison is between the score and its explanation. Tap the Stability badge in your HI dashboard to inspect contributions, deductions, coverage and recorded history. This makes it possible to distinguish a change in conditions from a change in the evidence available.

+
+

Why a new installation starts by collecting

+

The baseline contains up to 432 ten-minute samples. Eligibility requires at least 303 valid samples, together with the required coverage and usable current evidence. With uninterrupted capture, that is about 50½ hours after setup; gaps or missing inputs can extend collection.

+

History is held in memory. Restarting Home Assistant or reloading the integration clears the baseline and score history, so collection begins again. HI does not reconstruct that history from Recorder or fill missed observations with invented readings. Reaching the sample count alone does not force a score.

+
+

Read partial air-quality evidence honestly

+

Air-quality scoring follows the conditions configured for each enabled level. Where individual CO₂, PM2.5 or VOC conditions are configured, those measurements are used instead of the composite IAQ condition. Configured IAQ is used only when no individual conditions are configured for that level.

+

An unavailable configured measurement stays incomplete; it does not trigger a fallback to IAQ. Missing or partial evidence can change deductions, limit the score or make it unavailable. One pollutant measurement is not comprehensive air-quality coverage. The badge details explain which evidence was used.

+
+

Keep current control and device status in view

+

Stability is observational. It does not select ventilation lanes, change gates or write outputs. Current alerts, the reason panel and device status retain their separate roles; an improving score is not proof that every current condition is settled.

+

The badge’s recent-change arc describes score movement within the past 60 minutes, separately from the 72-hour composite. A dashboard showing a high score can still show an Outputs monitoring warning. Inspect both before drawing a conclusion.

+

For the full explanation of states, evidence and interactions, read the Stability Score manual. The repository also maintains the calculation and evidence contract.
